Isn’t it too cliché for me? The topic, I mean! As much as I try to avoid doing cliché stuff and stress on my small brain too much to come up with a unique concept, I believe, in the end, we humans have similar tastes- more or less. So, ‘how she wore it and how he wore it’ has been on my mind for a long long time and I can’t seem to recollect when I initially thought of it and also gave up because the whole idea got a little too common. I have seen many bloggers come up with this topic and liked a couple of them too. But for a person like me who always stick to unisex T-shirts and Shirts and Hoodies from the men’s wardrobe, yeah, it’s something I had to do anyway!
You must have seen my styling off late. It might seem very basic and you might even feel that I am not putting ‘enough of effort’, but it’s not the idea that I have in mind. I keep meeting so many of the Instagram people in real life and all I want is them to recognize me the way I am on the blog. You would never see me wear a pair of stilettos while catching up with friends for coffee or while shopping. I wanted to keep the same identity on the blog as well. I agree, in the beginning, I have done one- two fusion styling and also have worn high heels for a couple of shoots, but trust me that was difficult for me. I did it for the sake of BLOGGING or maybe to be in TREND and it was a mistake. It ain’t easy for me to pull off those high heels and finally I have decided to give up on them.I would also like to believe that pulling off a basic look as simple as a pair of Cargoes and a t-shirt is difficult too. Well, I don’t see many of such BASIC girls these days(AHEM).
So yeah, styling the same T-shirt on a boy and myself was something I have been planning for quite some time now and wanted to do it in a pure street style way. You know what I mean by Pure Streetstyle, don’t you? Now for the street style part of it, what better than making it a skate series? Trust me, I don’t like visuals which only involves holding the skateboards for the sake of making it ‘SKATE STYLE’. If I were to do it alone, not being confident much about skating, I would also have just held the board instead of doing some cool stunts! That’s another reason for getting my old friend Rinzing Sherpa into this series apart from the ‘Styling the same T-shirt hack’. Rinzing has been skating for years now and I am very glad to have him aboard for this series. Apart from the skating part, he is a guy into sneaks and streetwear, so yeah, he was the best option for this. After everything else was decided, I was really looking forward to the shoot.
This shoot was one of the best that I had and there are many reasons for it. I would start with my no make- up face because makeup is again something I struggle with. We wanted to keep this series as organic as possible hence in contrary to my signature moody shots and make-up clad face, you’d find us smiling and talking in most of the pictures. I went for darker kohl- eyes and a no heat wavy hair for a change- to incorporate more of me during my teens! During the shoot, Rinzing kept telling me more about play arena as he has been going there for years and also about skateboards. Subham did a great job as always capturing candid shots. Also, both of our styles are quite laid back and that’s why the styling is basic. But we have a term for it. It’s called COOL ( LOL). Overall, we really had a great time talking, giggling and chilling and the best part was that those cool moments were captured in the camera!

STYLING | SHIVANI BORUAH
FEATURING | RINZING SHERPA, Many thanks to my mate Rinz for taking out time and coming for the shoot. The moment I thought of SKATE, I knew it was him I have to talk to! That said, we have more STREET STYLE projects coming together 🙂
PHOTOGRAPHY & EDITING | SUBHAM DAS GUPTA
CONCEPT | Styling the same T shirt and Hoodie on both men and women.
LOCATION | PLAY ARENA, Bangalore, The PLAY guys were really cooperative and I am grateful to them for letting us shoot there. There wouldn’t have been a better place than PLAY to capture a skate- series.
WARDROBE COURTESY | HAUL APPAREL , This is my FIRST EVER collaboration with a street wear brand. When I thought of doing the ‘How She Wore It VS How He Wore It’ as a skate series, I wanted to pick a brand that speaks for itself. And what better than a homegrown street wear brand than Haul Apparel.
I am pretty sure many of you dress up in a basic way the way I do. Just a T-shirt and a pair of shorts/ Jeans/ Cargoes. Going forward I have decided to stick to my simple wardrobe and experiment around it. Nothing DIFFERENT will be done for the sake of blogging. Just that I am not afraid to flaunt my PLAIN BASIC SIDE anymore!
