How have you been? Guess what, I am back to being consistent talking to you. This in itself feels great. Today let’s go back to the summer of 2016, the year when I started ‘The Velvet Radio’. Many people whom I meet, ask if the name is inspired by the band ‘The Velvet Revolvers’. That’s not really the reason. I started ‘The Velvet Radio’ so that I could write about Fashion and Music, primarily, the two things which I love. Now, I wanted to have a name which would justify the idea behind the blog. Hence, I chose to go with ‘Velvet’ for fashion and ‘Radio’ for music.
Now a couple of people again make it a point to say that they haven’t seen me wear enough Velvet! Well! I went with ‘Velvet’ ‘cause it sounded kind of complete as a name too instead of ‘The Camouflage Radio’ or ‘The Cargo Radio’, if you know what I mean. Anyway, so, as I was a part of this band called ‘CMajor3Minor’, a Classic Heavy Metal Band from Bangalore and even before that as I had been a music enthusiast, all my life, I wanted to attend music concerts and interview ‘Popular Musicians’ on the blog which is why ‘Radio’, again.
So, yes, trust me when I say that it’s a great feeling to be updating the MUSIC section of the blog. VH1 SUPERSONIC is a very well organized dance music festival of India, originated back in 2013. It is the place where you can let yourself loose and just enjoy the music, connect with like-minded people. It is a 3- day long festival although as I didn’t manage to get leaves I was there only on the weekend. The primary acts that I wanted to watch were that of Soulmate, Sean Paul, Major Lazer and Incubus. I missed Major Lazer as they performed on the 9th which was a Friday. There were 5 humongous stages and different acts happening at the same time. Incubus is a band that I have been listening to while developing my taste in music, back in my teenage days. And it was utterly great to have watched them perform LIVE, right in front of my eyes!
Apart from that, there were so many other bands which I loved. One of them has to be Bombay Bassment. Then there was Plini who just rang THE BELL in my melancholy heart( JOKES!) I also met a couple of old faces and made a few new friends. I like to talk to people who seem to be sharing the same interests like me. And it’s good when the connection is a smooth one ’cause the other person gets you too!
Overall, spending my money to book the flights at the last moment for Supersonic was a very good decision. It’s strange how music opens up your mind and just makes you so happy! I would also like to confess that Pune is a beautiful city. It reminded me of my initial days in Bangalore when the city was less polluted and greener. People( the Uber/ Auto drivers, the Chat/ Street food vendors and the people at the festival) seemed nice and friendly.
I have attended a couple of music fests like Bangalore Open Air in Bangalore, Karnataka, Deccan Rock Fest in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh and Shillong Death Fest in Shillong, Meghalaya, but the crowd at Supersonic was a different one altogether. It was a very happy and positive crowd. Everybody was there just to have fun and although everybody was drunk and high, all the girls were safe- is what I mean! And if you talk about the stats, well, never have I seen such a big ass crowd like that in Supersonic. It just filled up the entire ground. There was so much of positivity in the air along with good music. And, the food was great too! Since I didn’t have much time(as I was there only for 2 days), I tried a couple of Vada Pav at a local street food joint with my cus Iffu who had also traveled from Madhya Pradesh to attend the fest( so much for my quest for authentic local food!) and also visited the German Bakery. The food is really good out there and is a must visit for people traveling to Pune, definitely not due to the 2010 act.
Last year, no matter how hard I tried to keep my calm with my life, the two accidents I met with changed my life. In a bad way as it left me not only unsalaried for a couple of months but also ate up all the leaves of 2018 too as I had to go for advanced leaves. This means whatever leaves I take now, it straight away becomes an LOP( Loss of Pay). Either I don’t fall sick or I don’t travel. Both of which are not in my hands! Maybe the latter is but isn’t ‘To travel is to live’? So, I am trying my best to leave this job and switch to another one but meanwhile, I have also decided to travel, no matter what. There are times I know I would be bankrupt if I opt for a vacation, but I still want to go for it. And I definitely would. I think life is to live in the present and not in the future. I think that’s the good thing these accidents have done to me. Usually, when you are sane enough and leading a normal life you don’t realize what you missing out. But those ‘Bed Rest’ days, I had enough time to myself and I realized so many things that I should be doing. I am a person who plans a lot. And these plannings didn’t really help me with anything. But at least now that I have stopped ‘too- much- of’ planning and started opting for rather on- the- go decisions, I seem to be happy.
Vh1 Supersonic was the first music festival that I have attended this year and there are a lot more I am going to attend. Let’s see where do my kicks take me this year! Rather where do I take them!
Talk to you soon, dear Diary!
P.S.: All the shots are taken by me.
