When in Thailand

Damnoen Saduak (OLDEST) Floating Market

Well, it is a too- cliché tourist destination and I know I always make it a point to NOT BE CLICHÉ. To be honest, I feel like laughing my guts out while I write this sentence. Also, most of the people would totally dismiss it as the ideal tourist destination during winters, I mean, you would want to backpack to some place cold and hold the snow in your hands and make a snowman maybe! In fact, my trip was planned just a few days- probably 20- 25 days ahead of it. I backpacked to Thailand with two pairs of shoes and 4 pairs of clothes (for a span of 10 days) and covered the cities- Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi and Pattaya. But I am glad I went ahead with the trip despite being rather fickle- minded about a NOT- TOO- WELL- PLANNED international trip. Although the pictures that I have taken through my phone are nothing compared to the beauty that I have encountered, I hope you would find this post useful for your travel to Thailand.

WHAT I WORE TO SOLE DXB 2017

It was still fresh in my mind. The RADIO THAT CHANGED LIVES. And also, the documentaries on Street Culture that I have watched with my Bangalore folks. It is not from where you start, it is about how you keep at it, your passion you know! How you try to establish your identity. Now that this is one of the major issues I see prevailing in our society. Identity Crisis. A world that is moving so fast, a platform is definitely required such that like minded people can come together and exchange their views and ideas. The documentary sessions that we have in Bangalore is one such platform. Think how exciting Sole DXB was, with thousands of people with similar interests and zeal.  The liberating feeling of meeting the icons I have only seen inside my laptop or the television, for example, the duo of hiphop radio who changed the lives and launched the careers of many unsigned artists, only to become hiphop legends in the days to come!

HOW REAL IS THE UNREAL WORLD

THE VELVET RADIO, SHIVANI BORUAH, Blogger, blog, Northeast, assam, India, bangalore, Travel, Delhi, Dilli, TravelBlogger, travelblog, backpacking, AIFW, Fashion Week, Amazon, Feminism, Poet, Author, Unreal

It isn’t long that I wrote the article ‘In the shoes of a blogger’. You can see and tell how gruesome the life of a blogger is. Surrounded by negative energy of haters and competitive counterparts, the life of a blogger is pretty mechanical which starts and ends with ‘HOW A BRAND WANTS YOU TO WORK’. I also mentioned how it’s all about the MUTUALISM and that originality and genuineness is going for a toss, well, mostly. Almost everybody is in the tryst of making it big without actually working hard for it.

WHAT I WORE TO AIFW SS 18

A smiling picture, for a change

This post is basically the PART II of the previous blog on AIFW and as I already mentioned, yes, I too planned my fits for AIFW. Going by what a premiere event it is, I really wanted to make my travel worth, I have been wanting and waiting to attend this event for quite sometime. All my fits were rather simple and no, I wasn’t being shot for the street style spotted of the various magazines at the AIFW. Well, didn’t I tell you that one has to dress up in a lot weird way to get shot? If not, then he has to be creative in a good way. But all I wanted was to look cool without losing my style and identity. That’s why I went for plain looks with just a couple of DIYs.

A SUNSET IN MOROCCO

THE VELVET RADIO, SHIVANI BORUAH, Blogger, blog, Northeast, assam, India, bangalore, sunset, Morocco, India, LOVE

Recently, I figured out something new about myself. I realized that unknowingly, I collect sunsets. This might be due to the fact that waking up to a beautiful sunrise and grabbing the morning cup of green tea isn’t practical anymore. I also realized that I always try to reach office as early as possible although my timings are flexible and I can afford to wake up late- unknowingly though, I like to reach home early so as to enjoy the setting sun with my little pooch! But due to heightened traffic conditions these days, I only get to see the warm colors of the setting sun while I am in the cab on my way back home. Why is it that our eyes get glued to the radiating hues of the sunset and we get transported to an enchanted universe?

PHOTOSHOP ART- A NEW RAGE

Back as a kid, there was this art gallery that we used to go to when kins used to visit us. You know, those tourist guide sessions! I could never really comprehend some of the paintings. And I remember trying hard to decode them during the night! It always amazed me how deep an artist’s mind can dive into. How deep can a human mind think of.  I have always believed that one’s mind can reach the void- where nothing else can ever be present. Isn’t it beautiful how limitless one can be and one can think of. Coming to digital art, I follow a couple of digital artists including Michael Oswald who transforms real women into crazy illusions. Photoshop art aka digital art is truly a new rage.

THE GIRL THAT USED TO BE

With mud between her fingers, the girl hummed away

Tall heights and war wounds

Never imagined a pink bedroom full of barbie dolls

In the scorching sun with messy hair, the girl hummed away

Baby sat bees and lizards

Never attempted to walk in mommy’s high heels

IN THE SHOES OF A BLOGGER

The Velvet Radio, Shivani Boruah, Northeast, assam, Blogger, bangalore, Black and White, Monochrome, Photography, India

DUHH! So, Shivani Boruah aka The Velvet Radio is out of topics. How lame! She can’t blabber about anything else and got this inconsequential topic on one of the easiest things of the lot- being a blogger! Well! As easy as it may seem, blogging is a tough job dude. Content, photography and then investing on your wardrobe, that’s a darn tough job! It definitely appears to be one of the easiest lives- “So, what do you do? Wear new and nice clothes and pose for the camera!” Nope. That ain’t all.

MY FIRST 2- PAGES SPREAD ON A MAGAZINE : DUSSEHRA EDIT

The Velvet Radio, Shivani Boruah, Blogger, Eclectic Northeast, magazine, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Streetstyle

JUNE 2017. I was home for the longest span of time in 4 years. Explored many things. About people, a few places and myself. One thing I realized (about myself) was the vision that I have with respect to my blog. Where does it stand now and where do I want it to stand in the days to come. Whether I am able to live up to the marks or not, I have always believed in having a vision in whatever I do. Many things took place. Some good and a bunch of bad! Actually, the latter outshadowed the former.

BOX OF LIES

The Velvet Radio, Monsoon, GUM BOOTS, RAIN, Northeast, assam, Bangalore, Blogger

This was the third time I collaborated with this talented photographer, Subham, to work on a monsoon visual. After multiple conversations we came to the conclusion of having an early morning shoot. These days due to frequent rain in Bangalore, early morning shoot wasn’t really possible. To add to our dismay, there exists the in availability of cabs, which is an unavoidable concern during rainy days! Location scouting has become another problem in the city and most of the times we are left with the café ‘s and the streets. Then the idea of the newly constructed football ground near my residence came to mind. But gum boots on the football ground? Well, aren’t we anyway living in a box of lies?
