SIGNATURE STYLE CO-ORDINATES

Now, a lot of people try to play the trend game but if you’re playing by its rules, it is really tough to keep at it. It isn’t a bad thing at all unless you are consistent with your style(and work) and are ready to spend half(or maybe more) of your salary on buying new ins of the market. But if you stick to the norms of your signature style and experiment around it, I believe you won’t be at loss. If you know what looks best on you then it’s easy to avoid spending your precious greens on. Although, style is dynamic and sticking to one’s signature style is difficult but one can always come up with a signature style of his own with the change in weather, season or age! Today, I thought of sharing what my signature style looks like ’cause you can tell I am one of those stupid narcissists you have always hated!

I have always been a tomboy my entire childhood and have always preferred wearing a pair of trousers or a pair of jeans over a skirt. I remember mentioning in one of my posts how my father always considered me a boy, I being the elder one maybe, and always bought me suits and pants. There were days when I really wanted to be in a pair of bow detailed pumps but I can’t actually recall a day without the pair of canvas shoes. Back in the college days, I would always dress up like a boy. I would wear that CARROT- FEET tapered denim, being a hit those days and pair it with a lot of shirts. The shirts would mostly have band patches or badges. I still have an olive green shirt with a KORN and CHE GUEVARA patch on it. And then I had some 2-3 knuckle belts which I would take pride in donning. Not to forget my colorful CHUCK TAYLOR’s and my black nails. There were also days when I was fond of wearing caps and hats while going for my guitar lessons. That was me back then and if I look at myself now, I realize I haven’t changed much with respect to my signature style over the years.

Talking about my current personal style, I still dress up in a very casual manner. My day off(from the shoot) mostly consists of a pair of torn jeans or a pair of baggy jammies, an oversized t-shirt and a pair of converse shoes, mostly. I like to wear my G-shock and a baseball cap at times too. The only difference with my nails is that they are no more black but I go for a transparent manicure. I am not very fond of wearing accessories, although my mother being in the jewelry business showers me with the best of hers. At times, a signature ring or an earring make its way into my jewelry box! The number of heels or stilettos in my shoe rack is singular and I might have bought them for some wedding or to match a dress for my blog. I really don’t feel very comfortable in those heels and prefer being in flat boots or sneakers. Talking of shoes, while in college I couldn’t really afford good pairs of sneakers. But now as I can afford a decent pair of sneakers once in 2-3 months(DUH), I am trying to upgrade my taste and move on from canvases and VANS!

I like to pair my denim with crop tops too but band t-shirts always take the spotlight. If you see me wearing a dress that would definitely be an oversized dress- in ‘XL’. I usually prefer wearing loose unisex T-shirts and never really choose women- fit T-shirts. Same goes for jackets unless they look really horrible being oversized. Now, you might find it funny(or shocking) but I am not very good at make- up too but yes, I am putting effort on honing my skills. But a day off just consists of a slight brow- work, a little mascara on my lashes and lip gloss. I am keen on choosing varied colored lip glosses and like to match that as per my mood.

If you see me experimenting, you’d also see how that revolves around my comfort zone. I like to stay really comfortable in my outfit and that’s the main reason of me dressing up! So, basically, I am a boring person who is rather simple and casual. But I believe that’s what makes me look my very best. For this post, I have paired my LEVI’s Denim Jacket with a simple beach trousers. I picked up the trousers, 2 sizes bigger, again, while window shopping the other day and got it DIYed with the camouflage patch on the side. Camouflage is something I really die for. Yeah, wearing the oversized jacket tucked in  for some spice, maybe! Well, that’s me and my signature style co-ordinates.

I have done a small freehand on the handkerchief inspired by Jean Michel Basquiat. Basquiat always painted taking inspiration from the current issues. Now, if you ask me what I see a problem is, then today’s boon and bane both has to be the Social Media( a post on it went LIVE) . My illustration is rather a funny one- it’s a NAKED couple, but nope there ain’t no GOOD LIFE that they are living. It’s only the hype in the social media that they care about- that’s why all the FOMO in the iPhone! Don’t you agree?

Thanks to social media and the burst of so many influencers in a row, there’s always a pressure to look our very best in what’s hot in the market. There’s a pressure and also a need to wear something different every day. But I don’t mind wearing the same type of outfit over and over again irrespective of the season and time! Even if its simple, I don’t really care as that’s me!

You are the best version of you!

You just need to find your signature style and experiment around it.

Then why would we want to be Selena Gomez, Dua Lipa or SOME BOHO GIRL?

If you are willing to wear a white shirt and blue denim shorts 7 days in a row, who’s going to stop you?  That’s your signature style. That’s what defines you!

  1. Absolutely! Can’t agree me. Initially before the technology hit everyone it was like “log kya kahengey” and now after the rise of social media, it’s about “Wall Pe kya likhoon and kya post karoon”. Rarely do people do it for themselves. And I don’t believe in spending money on fashion that’s trending because the moment the trend is dead you are never going to look at it. All I can say is just be yourself and be true.

  2. The comfort clothing thing, the XL mens t-shirts, not following trends so much, being bad at make up. I see so many similarities here. How is this even possible. No matter how put-together I try to b when I dress up to go out, once im home I am back in my loose pyjamas and an oversized tee. It is quite a paradox. I thought I was the only weird one who would dress up like a tomboy one day and the next day be all feminine. It was always weird for me to define what my style genre was. I still can’t. But I’ve figured I don’t have to. Not everyone’s style can be boxed up and labelled. Love the painting you made! I already told you that anyway. 🙂
