How have you been? Guess what, I am back to being consistent talking to you. This in itself feels great. Today let’s go back to the summer of 2016, the year when I started ‘The Velvet Radio’. Many people whom I meet, ask if the name is inspired by the band ‘The Velvet Revolvers’. That’s not really the reason. I started ‘The Velvet Radio’ so that I could write about Fashion and Music, primarily, the two things which I love. Now, I wanted to have a name which would justify the idea behind the blog. Hence, I chose to go with ‘Velvet’ for fashion and ‘Radio’ for music.
A few days back, the bassist of my ex- band CMajor3Minor, who call themselves CYPHER now, has shared the link to the latest song KHUDI of THE LOCAL TRAIN, the winner of the first season of the Sennheiser Top 50. That was a song which kept buzzing on my head for quiet sometime and then one fine morning I got an e- mail from SENNHEISER to write a blogpost on the SEASON 3 TOP 50. Last year’s finalé was one riot of a live performance and this e- mail meant free pass to a great evening filled with alluring performances by some of the really good bands of the country and also catching up with many aspiring musicians and music enthusiasts.
Be it the songs of the cuckoo in the burst of daylight or the sound of the crickets on a lazy afternoon. Be it the KHULLANG ESHEI of Manipur or the BORGEET of Assam. Be it the notes of the UJUK TAPU of Arunachal Pradesh or the resonance of the colliding bamboos during the CHERAW DANCE of Mizoram. Be it the DHOL and PEPA of ASSAM or the GUITAR RIFFS at a concert in SHILLONG. MUSIC is everywhere in the Northeast. From ZIRO VALLEY to HORNBILL, Northeast India is all about music. In fact, here, music forms an integral part of the lives of the people.
