Alright. Where shall I begin? From the DAY 1 of Amazon India Fashion Week? Aah, if I have to document the fashion week, it would be incomplete if I don’t mention the past days or the weeks before! Or maybe last year! So yeah, after I started TVRadio last year, there were 2 AIFWs and 2 LFWs and maybe 2 Bangalore Fashion Weeks as well( Before TVRadio was launched, although I was very much interested in these so-called fashion weeks, I wasn’t really following them religiously). Every time some blogger would post the pictures of ‘WHAT I WORE TO AIFW’, I would so dearly want to go to the fashion week.
The outfits? Boy! Those won’t be basic fits, you see. Basically, people try to get as much creative as they can! You never know what can be expected from the just- another- blogger you’ve been following till you spot them at the event. And then the new works and collections of the designers and the jaw-dropping TALL models slaying the ramp walks. The entire feeling of being a part of an event like AIFW is enough to make you be a part of it! Moreover, it’s the best place to meet everyone you have been a virtual friend and a fan of. It’s the place to network too if you’re good at socializing. For a trend- frenzy person, you can definitely get benefitted as everybody, MOSTLY, do trendy stuff at the event. Although there is a lot of creativity that usually revolves around what is IN at the moment! Moreover, if you write about FASHION, you very well need to be a part of the FASHION WEEK or else it will be the same thing as a Megadeth fan not going to a Megadeth concert happening in the city/ nation.
BUT, this post isn’t about street style spotted at AIFW, I believe there are enough posts on that. Also, it won’t be about the collections of the upcoming designers showcased at the AIFW or the creative OLD Designers rocking their game as usual as there are enough posts on that as well. For me, more than anything else, being a part of the event and see the people in REAL, whom I only see on my phone, you know what I mean, was a big thing. After struggling for almost 2-3 weeks for the passes, I got my Media Accred, perks of writing for a city-based Newspaper. I was very excited to meet the people whom I have been following for their style and content for over a year and hence captured a few of them on my phone.
But what I have been hearing about the fashion weeks, yeah, it’s true that people do weird stuff. They dress up quite weird. I have seen guys draped in saris, donning long ruffled skirts, wearing high stilettos and heels. Girls and ladies are not far behind in this too. They wear clothes which if otherwise worn might be called as fashion blunders. In fact, girls and guys plan their outfits long before the fashion week starts- which I did too and what I wore will be up on the blog next. I am sure everybody wants to look unique and their very best. Everybody dresses up for the fashion week with the aim of getting shot by a popular magazine for “STREET STYLE SPOTTED”. But my point is if somebody doesn’t wear fusion dress-up on a day off, why would he/ she do it at the event just to gain attention? That very thing sounds a little pretentious and lame to me. In the same way, if a person isn’t a thrash or death metal music fan, I don’t see the point of him wearing a SLAYER Jacket or a Nuclear Blast T-shirt at a metal gig just to look cool! This is what I don’t understand if you’re not into something, say, for example, street style, why to PRETEND to be somebody else just to get shot to glory? Why not just be yourself and do your own s&%*?
Apart from the people whom I have been following, I met many folks at the Fashion Week( of course for the very first time) and really loved hanging out with them- so much so that if I were to go back to Delhi in the future they will be the reason for my travel. Once again, just like the last post, I can’t get Delhi out of my head and I really miss the capital: the colorful streets, the variety of food, culture, those strange faces smiling at me and all the social media people who are close friends now. I hope you liked the candids in this post. And yeah, if you like to document Fashion, you should definitely think of being a part of the Fashion Week too. Next time maybe!
